Getting to Strasbourg
Once again we are going to try to go to Strasbourg, but this time we have no firm plans for what to do after that. We arrive in Auxonne in late-May, and our first job is to lodge an application for a Carte des Sejour for Tony as the spouse of a Swiss citizen (Rita). Having made an application in 2021, we now know exactly what paperwork we need to prepare, and so hopefully the process will be simple this year, and we just lodge the application and then just wait for a decision to be made.
One of the reasons for going to Strasbourg in June is to meet up with an American colleague from my years teaching at Cornell University many years ago. We have been trying for this get-together for several years now, so hopefully all goes well this time around.
UPDATE: Once again, we failed to get to Strasbourg. This year, the high temperatures and lack of rainfall meant that many canals and some rivers were closed to navigation. This was especially the case for the canals to the west of Strasbourg, meaning that if we got to Strasbourg, we could then not proceed any further and would have to return via the way we came. Or so we thought: as it turned out, the Rhine was also closed to navigation at one stage, meaning we might have been trapped in Strasbourg!
But we did get together with Arnim and Heidi when they changed their plans and took the train down to Besançon, where we spent a great week with them.
