Progress - Bedroom 4
November 2013
Bedroom 4 at the Rue Gambetta frontage was a relatively empty room, so it became the temporary home of the safe that had stood in the Foyer. This safe was extremely heavy and very difficult to move, so it was simply moved to the nearest room when the floorboards needed to be taken up in the Foyer. At the moment, we have no idea where the safe will eventually be located, since it is too heavy to move up or down the stairwell (heaven only knows how it was moved up to the 1st Floor in the first place!), but possibly it will go in the new Foyer on the 1st Floor in the middle of the wall separating EnSuite 4 from the Foyer.
March 2014
A new doorway to the Foyer from Bedroom 4 was also constructed in March, since the old entrance door on the right of the photo below would now be used for access to the new Ensuite 4. The photo at left below shows the new doorway into the Foyer, with the Linen Closet directly ahead across the Foyer. During March, the suspended ceiling handers were also installed in Bedroom 4, and a cupboard to the right of the chimney space was removed to provide space for the eventual construction of a new wooden "fireplace" around the existing chimney.
April 2014
The main change in Bedroom 4 this month has been the installation of the VMC ductwork. Not much appears to have happened in Bedroom 4, because apart from the new entrance door not much else has needed to be done so far.
June 2014
June saw the plasterboard go onto the suspended ceiling frames in Bedroom 4, and the front wall stripped back in readiness for installation of the doubled wall. The new windows are also shown below, but apart from being double-glazed and having new hardware, they look very much like the old windows (in accordance with the OPAH Guidelines).
August 2014
It’s amazing what a difference a coat of paint makes! While the plasterwork was finished in July, the first coat of paint in early-August really started to give Bedroom 4 a finished look. Unlike the other bedrooms, Bedroom 4 does not have a marble fireplace, even though it has a chimney. So a job for the future is to build a “fireplace” in the style of the other bedrooms, either in marble or (probably) wood.
