Progress - Bedroom 5
December 2013
One of the first tasks on the 2nd Floor was removing the water-damaged ceiling in the Foyer, and this quickly spread to all the other rooms. As this view up from Bedroom 5 shows, the roof structure above shows promise.
March 2014
In March, the suspended ceiling hangers were installed in Bedroom 5.
June 2014
The wiring for the bed head switches and powerpoints was embedded in the wall and replastered in June. These switches, and the main switch at the doorway, are connected via the domotique system to enable all lighting and heating to be controlled from the bed.
The plastering of Bedroom 5 commenced in June, including the doubled wall on the external wall, and the integration of the new windows into the doubled wall. This will provide a deep recess inside the window, on which a wooden seat will be installed (as shown in the mock-up below) to enable residents to sit at the open window near the wrought iron railings and watch the barges passing by the front gate on the Canal de Garonne. The red and blue cables coming out of the wall between the windows will connect to the hot water radiators when they are placed in their new position.
July 2014
The mock-up of the window ledge shown above, has now been replaced with the real thing, with a nice transitional curve to account for the difference in doubled-wall thickness on each side of the window. Because of the individual nature of each of the windows, all the window seats are custom-made. Nice!
August 2014
Bedroom 5 is nearing completion, with the sanded floors and painted walls. Good enough to sleep in!
July 2015
While the entire house was given a once-over paint job before the band arrived in August 2014, it can be seen from the photo above that the predominant colour was white! In the months since then, the entire house has been repainted, with just a little bit more light and shade. This process started with painter Frederique painting a few test-doors to gauge our reaction.
Having expressed our preferences on the patterns for the doors, we then agreed on all the shades we would use for the paint in different situations. The same theme was used on all floors, although a couple of doors with different patterns were snuck in, just for variety. Some outcomes for Bedroom 5, after the final painting and detailing had been done, are shown below.
